The Boost Protective Cover

The BPC was made of fiberglass and covered with cork. Custom made to fit each Command Module individually, it served to protect the CM from the rigors of launch and the jettisoning of the Launch Escape Tower. It had "blow-out" plugs over the Reaction Control Engines in the event they were needed during an abort, as well as vents, and a window over the main hatch.
